I first knew David about 20 years ago, when we both worked for the Council. I was a manager, and some people treated me as such, perhaps being wary about what I might say or do. Not so with David. He spoke with me as an equal. I always enjoyed seeing him because I knew he would have something interesting and useful to say, and that his goal was to make things better, not for himself, but for others. I started work at Larkhall in 1977 and always loved it. When I heard he was there I knew it was in good hands. Alan Sutton
